When a chart is drawn and its Ascendant and Midheaven have been calculated, the position of the houses can be deduced and from astronomical tables the planets positions inserted. From this chart, the aspects can be plotted.

These represent the relationships between the various components of the chart.

Aspects are divided into three, strong, moderate and weak. The table below shows these aspects.

An Aspect Chart can be drawn to represent these relationships as part of an individual's natal chart. A generic Aspect Chart can be found here.

Powerful Aspects
	Conjunction	Exact Aspect 0° 8°— 9° orb	A focal relationship strengthening energy flow according to the sign and house position.
	Opposition	Exact Aspect 180° 8°— 9° orb	Accentuates the polarities within a chart but can actually form an integrating link.
	Square	Exact Aspect 90° 8°— 9° orb	Usually indicates tension between the planets involved, which can develop energy and strength.
	Trine	Exact Aspect 120° 8°— 9° orb	Helpful relationship within a strong character but detrimental in superficial characters.
Moderate Aspects
	Sesquiquadrate	Exact Aspect 135° 2° orb	Indicates strain, ill omened when falling between two important planets.
	Sextile	Exact Aspect 60° 5 °— 6° orb	Similar to a Trine in effect but without the same force and energy potential.
	Quincunx	Exact Aspect 150° 2 °— 3° orb	Also called Inconjunction. Often indicates an inharmonious energy flow.
Weak Aspects
	Semi-Square	Exact Aspect 45° 2 ° orb	A weaker version of the sextile, can often result in potential for mis-understanding.
	Semi-Sextile	Exact Aspect 30° 2 ° orb	An aspect indicating co-operation in a non-direct manner.
