Capricorn the Goat
22 December to 20 January
The Moon is: Waxing Gibbous
Mythological associations are unclear but there is a faint reference to Pan - whose mother ran from him because of his ugliness, but whose success in seducing nymphs was notable!
An ancient Babylonian god was Ea, known as the antelope of the subterranean ocean - the fishtailed goat also called Kusarikku, the fish-ram.
Ruled by the planet of ambition and prudence, Saturn, and with a feminine (receptive) nature, Capricorn is reactive in its energy. A Cardinal (creative and inventive) sign, Capricorn governs public life and organisation, with personal ambition and the will to succeed.
It is an Earth (fixed and solid) sign, and you, the Capricorn, are a loyal associate and make faithful friends, although you are quite possessive and can be rather jealous.
Capricorns have a persistent feeling that you must develop into something. You must have some accomplishment to point to, some property to look after, or some obligation to fulfil, which may be business, politics, or the social or intellectual fields. You have excellent intuitions and use them in your struggle to achieve personal independence and economic security.
Like your symbol, the mountain goat, you are steady and sure-footed but have a tendency to not only climb the mountain but create the mountain which you climb. Things that stand in your way to the top, however, never deter you.
Capricorns love law and order and you are dogmatic in your view that a rule is a rule and an order is an order, everything has to be sensible.
Your cautious habits prepare you to use everything you see, hear or learn. With an extreme capacity for hard work, linked with your notion that success means material security, you will work all out and plan endlessly for it. You feel, however, that the world has to give you something in return for what you have contributed.
You have great faith in your own power, and are worldly and careful. Asking for no mercy from anyone, you drive a hard, but not unjust bargain.
Capricorns are extremely apt in finding solutions to the most difficult problems and are very successful as trouble-shooters.
Neat and methodical in your work and tending to be slave driver at home. You feel your household should be managed with precision, with everything in perfect working order.
Capricorns desire money, because yours is a long-lived sign. You fear being dependent on others when you are old. This need for security may cause you to have frugal instincts, which make you stingy and at times greedy.
You are old when you are young, and young when you are old. and can live to a ripe old age.
With a tendency to be gloomy and, at times, lonely, you behave on the principle that the world is a place in which every man is for himself. Yet you do have a sensitive personality and want very much to be appreciated.
Capricorn intellects are sometimes subtle. You think profoundly and deeply, thoroughly exploring all possibilities before deciding on a safe alternative.
You have good memories and an insatiable, yet methodical, desire for knowledge. Rational, logical, clear-headed and with good concentration powers.
Capricorns are skilled in debate, where you can lure others into traps and confound them with your logic.
There is a tendency towards pessimism, melancholy and even unhappiness, especially if you fail personally.
In the extreme, this can make you a very depressed individual with ecstatic happiness alternating with most wretched misery.
The swings in mood are not the only reason that some Capricorns deserve the adjective based on their name - Capricious.
You can be surprisingly and suddenly witty and subtle and then ruin things by unexpected and utterly irresponsible bouts of flippancy.
In your personal relationships you are often ill at ease if not downright unhappy!
The Goat is somewhat self-centred but not excessively so, wary and cautious around people you do not know well, preferring to meddle with others and attract people who do not really understand you.
Casual acquaintances will be treated with diplomacy, tact and above all, reticence. You make few good friends but are intensely loyal to those that you do make. Capricorns are a bitter and powerful enemy.
Capricorns test the waters of affection gingerly but, once married, you are faithful, though inclined towards jealousy. Most Capricorns marry for life
Capricorn Body & Health
The typical Capricorn is of medium stature, with a tendency towards a slender body, and with an air of seriousness. The face is formal and often grim with deep frown lines on the forehead and a reserved cast to the mouth and jaw-line.
Capricorn governs the knees, bones and skin and you may be liable to fractures and strains of the knees and other defects of the legs.
Skin diseases from rashes and boils are dangers, and digestive upset may be caused by your tendency to worry or suppress emotions.
Anaemia, catarrh, deafness and rheumatism may also threaten the Capricorn.
Capricorn rules the knees and shins. This may not seem an important area of the body, but anyone who suffers with their knee will affirm their importance.
Capricorns tend to be of medium build and full of energy. Unlike Taurus, who charges like the bull, the Capricorn goat plans his route with care. A fortunate sign, Capricorn can eat most anything without fear of the effects.
Their natural pessimism can lead them to over-estimate the risk and effect of illness, fearing that a cold may be time to write a will. This also leads to potential risk of depression and melancholy.
